Matt grew up in Richmond, VA. and attended college at James Madison University where he majored in History with a focus in Pre-law and Secondary Education.
In 1993, he moved to Jackson and worked as a ski instructor during the winter and a fly-fishing guide during the summer. He joined Teton County EMS and volunteered as an EMT, thus beginning his passion for working for emergency services.
In 1999, Matt began working for the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and spent six years as the School Resource Officer. He currently works along side Sheriff Whalen to run the overall Office.
Matt has continued to ski patrol, is an active member of Teton County Search and Rescue, acts as President of CrimeStoppers, member of the Behavioral Services Committee at St. John's Medical Center and serves on the Community Safety Network’s Board of Directors.
Matt has a 13-year old son and a 10-year old daughter who keep him active and engaged in the school system and the activities of the community’s youth.
